R.D. Brown & Company, located in Philadelphia, PA was founded by Richard D. Brown. Rick has over 25 years of consulting and management experience in the area of compensation and related organizational and human resource activities. Assignments have included the development of executive compensation programs, competitive market analyses, sales compensation plans, variable pay, performance compensation, salary administration, custom surveys and audits. Clients have comprised a broad cross section of public, private and not-for-profit organizations of all sizes.
Rick formerly served as Compensation Practice Leader in Buck Consultant’s Philadelphia office and was a Senior Principal in the New York office of Hay Associates. In addition to his consulting background, Rick has extensive industry experience. As Director of Executive Compensation for Merck & Co., Inc., he was responsible for all compensation matters covering Merck’s top 1,000 executives worldwide. He has also served as Director, Corporate Compensation for the United Brands Company and in various human resources and consulting positions with the Sun Company.
Rick has been a speaker on a variety of compensation topics for numerous groups and conferences. He is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, the Philadelphia Human Resource Planning Group, the PENJERDEL Employee Benefit and Compensation Association and World at Work (formerly the American Compensation Association, which honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Award.)
Rick earned a B.A. in Applied Science and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University, and an M.S. in Industrial Administration from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University.
